Gareth Rees Magnevane

Speaker: Gareth Rees, Africa CEO, Magnevane

What would you like to say to your FD/CFO?

Gareth Rees: Hi CFO Centre. This is Gareth Rees from, from Magnevane I just wanted to say thank you so much to you and to Matthew in particular, Matthew Comins for the incredible service that we’ve been provided at Magnevane. He really has been available for us above and beyond what, what his mandate has been and it really doesn’t matter what we’ve thrown at him, he’s come to the party. So I just want to thank you so much for that Matthew really.

What problems were you facing before we started working with you?

Gareth Rees: I started as the CEO of Magnevane in January this year and the three years that preceded us in terms of trading were quite messy in terms of the governance and there was a lot of unknowns, unknown transactions, unknown debts and it really was difficult to put my finger on something. So really just this was one of the biggest problems we had as we we couldn’t we didn’t know where we were and we didn’t know what the truth was.

What have been the benefits to your business specifically?

Gareth Rees: Since Matthew has come on board, we really got down to the bottom of all the historical skeletons in the financial closet. We’ve closed those off, we’ve mitigated our risk and now we really have a clean slate for scaling the business, and not only dealing with the historical issues, but also getting assistance on the financial modeling for our business cases, for finance application. There really isn’t anything that I couldn’t ask Matthew that I couldn’t ask a full time CFO so really incredible service.

How has our support benefited you personally?

Gareth Rees: For me personally, the benefits have been peace of mind as the CEO, I spent a lot of time focusing on the market, making components of the business. and I need to know that the back office is working in an accurate and well governed way. And Matthew has really given me that peace of mind that allows me to focus on our customers.

What is the number that really matters to you?

Gareth Rees: The number that really matters to me is zero, zero unknown transactions, zero skeletons in our closet. I know exactly where I am every single day and no surprises.
